Why Does God Punish Sinners?
Give thanks to the LORD, for he
is good; his love endures forever.
Psalm 118:1
Have you ever said, "That's not fair?" No one can ever
say that of God. God is always fair (or just) in everything He does.
The Bible says that God "does no wrong, upright and just is
he" (Deuteronomy 32:4). God is our judge, and He judges fairly.
Since Adam and Eve, everyone is born into this world with a "want
to" to sin. God is holy; He hates sin. He cannot let people
do wrong without punishing them because He is just and fair. The
Bible says, "For the wages of sin is death . . ." (Romans
6:23). Wages are what we earn for what we do. What do we earn for
sin? Yes, death. God said that because of sin we deserve to be separated
from Him forever. That's the punishment our just God placed on sin.
It is called eternal death.
But God sent His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die on the
cross and take the punishment we deserve for sin. People who reject
the Lord Jesus will be lost forever in a terrible place called Hell.
All who believe in Jesus as their Savior are saved from the punishment
they deserve (Acts 16:31).
